Temples Angkor Wat, Bayon and Ta Prohm

Day 122:  The weekend has arrived and we have free time to be tourists and we start the day with a Sunrise tour of  the Angkor Wat temple.

After a couple of hours exploring Angkor Wat, we take our tuk tuk’s to the next temple stop – Bayon.  Some of the girls did elephant rides here around the temple, but my girlfriend and I decided to go exploring by foot.  We had a moment here, where no one was around in the cool undergrounds of the temple, and it was serene and still and we enjoyed the peace and coolness. Bayon is famous for it’s faces smiling at you.  They look like giant puzzles put togther.  Loved it here.

Next stop was Ta Prohm, which is famous for the Angelina Jolie film Tomb Raider, and also known as Tree versus Temple.  I loved it  here, the trees growing over the temple.  Heaven for photography.

I love the description of Ta Prohm in my lonely planet Cambodia book “There is a poetic cycle to this venerable ruin, with humanity first conquering nature to rapidly create, and nature once again conquering humanity to slowly destroy.”

All of these temples are amazing, and to think how they were built with hard labour by hand.  The carvings and sculptures perfect.

Ta Prohm was built in the 1180’s as a Buddhist Temple. (another photo below)

Gratitude for the day, I’m so excited to be here and taking these shots.  I’m thankful to share it with my best girlfriends.
